Bird on the Branch, Goose in the Pond

The quilt top is done. In the end I went with setting the Goose in the Pond blocks on point, lining them all up and framing them with my favourite Jennifer Paganelli fabric of all time - blue Carole.

I'm rather happy with how it turned out. This layout has meant I have been able to show off a large amount of the gorgeous Alexander Henry bird fabric.

The Goose in the Pond blocks were a lot of fun to cut up and make, although they were rather time consuming. It took about 20 minutes to cut out the fabric for each individual block, and then another 30 minutes to sew up each block. I made 4 the first day, then 3 over the next 2 days.

This one has a stained glass window effect happening with the sun behind it.

I would definately use this layout again, although in a smaller size next time, this quilt is king size!!!

The colours in this quilt make me feel very restful.

I know I'm going to enjoy looking at these birds and watching these 'geese' for a long time to come. xo

You are a speedy worker! I love how the fabrics are showcased. I wouldn't have guessed it was king sized from the photo. Now to quilt it.

You are FAST, Cathy! And the top is beautiful!! I've always loved how that colorway of the Jennifer Paganelli print glows. It is so warm against the cooler bird print. All of the colors in your blocks are superb -- they have a lovely sparkle. My strippy quilts are still percolating but then again, I keep shying away from time consuming block choices. :-) Gorgeous work!

How do I love your quilt? I only wish I could count the ways. I absolutely adore everything about it. I have seen and appreciated that same fabric displayed in my favorite fabric store, but I don't think I could have come up with such a beautiful use for it. Did you choose your other fabrics using the bird fabric as a focus? What is your secret to choosing and combining fabrics? Your work never ceases to amaze me!

I am going to an art gallery later this morning to see a display of quilts from Gee's Bend, but I will be thinking of your quilt all day. It should be on the cover of a book or magazine!
