Inching Along

My Kim McLean Flower Pots applique quilt is slowly inching along. The first four panels are now completed.

In Kim's original pattern she used small squares of fabric to make up the borders. I'm too lazy to cut out all those squares (I know, I know, I spend all that time appliqueing and I'm too lazy to cut out a few squares!!!).

Anyway, when I first saw Kaffe's Lichen fabric, I just knew it had to be the border for this quilt. I fell in love with this fabric in every colour range (see 3 of the colours below), it is such a gorgeous fabric, and so useful.

Kaffe's Lichen in brown, rust & green colourway

I think the brown lichen frames the applique well without overpowering it (It looks better in the real, the photo's don't really do it justice).

For any applique lovers out there, this quilt is a must....plenty of wonderful curvy bits, pointy bits, lots of circles, straight lines, bias strips.....oh so divine!! The curvy flowers and leaves have been my favourite to make so far (which is probably a good thing, there are a lot of them!).

Is anyone else making this one, or any of Kim's other applique patterns? I would love to see them. Leave a comment with a link to your blog or flickr pics so we can all check them out. Til next time xo

This is a spectacular quilt, love all the colors and design. What a fantastic job you are doing on it, I wish I had the time and talent to pursue a project like this, but not the season in my life right now, but oh thank you for sharing the photos, I just love admiring it. I love the KF fabrics and have ordered some for my etsy shop coming in around end of August and I can't wait to get them. Happy Quilting.

I am drooling here! What a lovely quilt. I can't wait to see the finished product. Unfortunately, I do not have the patience for all those little swirly bits.

It's stunning, you are doing a fantastic job and your applique is superb. I love the big blowsey shapes and have this pattern. I have lollypop trees and princess feathers at different stages. The sashing fabric is perfect, I'm going to remember that one. What a treat to see it this far along.

This is an amazing quilt! WOW! and all that work! I am just starting to discover applique but not at all sure how to do it... Is this needle turn and blindstitch? (sorry if this is a silly question but I am a beginner..). I just love the lichen fabric too. Seeing it in your picture really brings it to life, didn't seem quite like that in the shops catalogue pictures.. Thanks for posting it.

Looks simply delicious! Do you think it is something a beginner could try? Could you do a tutorial of how you do applique?

You have me sooooo tempted, as this is my favorite of Kim's patterns. Did you use the pattern, but pick your own fabrics. I think I saw a kit available on gloriouscolor.com, but.... I ought to have my head examined for taking on another BIG project, but I do love hand applique, and it would be something to work on long term while I finish other projects.... Oh dear, I'm talking myself into it....
