9 Patch Quiltalong

Crazy Mom Quilts has been hosting a 9 patch quiltalong for a while now. I have been admiring all the different 9 patch quilts everyone has been making and posting on flickr. So when she decided to run a second quiltalong...I was in!! I know I'm not going to be making one 9 patch block a day, nor will I probably make 70 of them, but I will have sashing!!!! As you may have realized if you are a regular reader of my blog I am a little bit obsessed with colour! So this 9 patch quilt will be another colourful quilt.

I'm also experimenting a little with the 9 patch block and changing it around a little.

I love the pattern that is forming when using 3 colours in each block instead of the usual two. More of an L shape rather than an X.

I'm thinking I will gather each 9 patch into a group of four, surround them in a raspberry sashing, then a green sashing then an aqua sashing....could turn out to be a hideous riot of colour and useful only for the dog's bed, but I know I'm going to have fun anyway!!!

So here are my first 12 blocks done. Thanks Crazy Mom Quilts for hosting another fabulous quilt along. xo

Hurrah for color! Your choices are spectacular, of course and I love the layout idea! It reminds me a little of the Big Blankie over at Attic 24 -- maybe only in the grouping and sashing and in my head... and because I know I will love it. :-) Your yellows are giving me the swoons, Cathy! I don't (yet) own any of that yellow Splash. May have to rectify that. Very exciting stuff!!

I really do like the L shaped 9 patch blocks. Your take on them speaks to me and I love your colors/patterns/fabric.

You really come up with some great ideas - I haven't seen anyone do that before - you should market your patterns! In the first photo is (I think) the red/blue fabric I have too (6th down on right)which I got once to inspire me to do an aqua/raspberry quilt - all the other fabrics are doing the trick too!

Yowzers! I love all of the colors in this! No dog bed for this one, if you don't like the finished project, send it my way. :) I think it will be gorgeous.

I love, love, love your 9patch variation! I am participating in this QAL too. I did the 1st 9patch QAL and made over 100 blocks. But when Amandajean from CrazyMomQuilts announced another QAL to destash even more, I joined it also. This one will be throw sized for our sofa and I'm doing it in Christmas fabrics. Sashing will be with black.

I'll subscribe to your blog so I can keep watching how your quilt is going.
