How do I feel at the end of making a quilt? Fulfilled that I have created something new. Sad that the journey I took to create this quilt is now at an end. Glad that the colours and shapes have come together to make something I am happy with. Pleased that I can hang this one up, or give it away, or perhaps even sell it, and look to the next project. I have felt all those things with this quilt.
For the quilting I decided to simply quilt in straight lines, using masking tape as my guide. The masking tape worked very well and would restick to the quilt about 5 or 6 times, so you don't waste much tape.
I used Kaffe's shot cottons for the sashings and they are like quilting through butter, so soft!
The back is a simple pattern trying to use up some of the leftover fabric from the front. The gorgeous red dot is a Michael Miller That's it dot in cherry.
The binding was a suprise to me....while making this quilt I envisaged a deep aqua, or rich raspberry for the binding, however I purchased this gorgeous black & white polka dot from Ballarat Patchwork recently, and as soon as I saw it I just knew it had to go on my 9 patch windows quilt.
I just love it, it frames the bright colours in the quilt beautifully I think.
So onto the next project. A little birdie told me that the 2nd Sue Ross blocks are on the way....oh yes, I'm very excited about that little project!!!

Beautiful! Rich and vibrant and filled with polka dot goodness. I think the b/w polka dot binding was the perfect choice.
Gorgeous quilt.
The binding finishes it off beautifully.
Andi :-)
I love that you went with that binding, it's the sort of surprise I love in a quilt. The quilt is fabulous, great effect and looks neat in the header too. Oh and the backing is marvelous of course!
Looks great...love the binding & the backing. I agree, it is a sense of achievement to finish, but it is also sad that your journey with that quilt is over!
Beautiful quilt!
I simply love the binding you chose! It finishes off your quilt perfectly!
Beautiful, you are a talented lady. The fun is now you can start something new.

that is a fantastic disappearing nine patch........very cool and the black and white binding is perfect..........
I too find it a bit said when I've finished a quilt because the journey is so much fun but the satisfied feeling of accomplishment and the beautiful end result is just as good. I love your quilt. The choices of fabrics and placement are perfect.
Your quilt really turned out beautifully. I know what you mean about finishing a project. It's almost like saying goodby to an old friend.
Your quilt looks amazing, I wouldn't have considered this binding either but its perfect. I too have mixed emotions when I finish a quilt, its nice to have them done but at the same time sad that you have finished working on it.
That quilt is just gorgeous! I love the black for the binding. Just perfect!
It is fabulous and you should be very proud of it. I like seeing it in your header too.
Your quilts always make me want to go to my sewing room and create! Beautiful quilt and I also love the binding.
POP goes the binding!! The ab"sew"lutely perfect addition to that fun and playful quilt. I went to that website to try to buy some for myself but didn't find it listed. I loved it!
Your quilt is gorgeous and the b/w binding makes it sing! Beautiful!

I love the binding of your quilt! Very snappy. I am glad you liked the masking tape method. That is one of the options that I am looking at for my quilt. Thanks for sharing with us.
Have a great day!
Very candy like! Especially that choclate binding! Nice trick with the tape and quilting! Well done!
beautiful quilt! i love the header pic the best.. makes it look like stained glass!
Hi Cathy,
Haven't chatted in a while...hope all is well. You've been so busy sewing this beautiful quilt. I love everything about it. It's wonderful as your new header picture too.

Your quilt is beautiful. I would have never thought to use the black and white binding but it is perfect.
Sensational Cathy!! The window effect is amazing...and those cabbages!
Amazing...what a lovely finish with the black spot on the bind.
Stunning Cathy!!! I love the "surprise" of the black binding!
It looks fabulous Cathy, love the border. Will look forward to seeing it in the flesh!
Beautiful quilt. You made this design very unique & interesting. Great colors, fabrics, and interesting design how you set the blocks.

Another wonderful quilt! Great job. I have yet to try masking tape. My sister did and liked it.
Love this quilt, and it certainly looks like windows to me -- stained glass windows. Love the back and the binding as well. And I can't wait for the Sue Ross blocks to arrive!!! I hope you get your second block done while I struggle with my first block, so I can benefit from your wisdom and experience. So glad there is a blog for the BOM -- makes it even more fun!
You did a wonderful job! I'm inspired with the L shaped 9 patch... my friend and I make a lot of 9 patch for charity... the L shape will use up many squares we have and add to the look... Also I really like the black/white polk a dot binding! Oh, the first thing I saw (or thought I saw) when I saw the finished quilt... the border... I thought it was cabbages! LoL... and then saw the roses... it's great... just my bad eye's I suppose! It really turned out nice! Someone will really enjoy it!
Cathy...it's a beautiful quilt. Your fabric choices are perfect together. It reminds me of stained glass too.
Ooo, I like that! I really, really do!
I'm afraid I can't relate much with your feelings about finishing a project, as I rarely finish anything! :)
What a bright, cheerful quilt! The colours really sing and the polka dot binding is perfect.
Polka dot binding - my new favorite. I can't wait to make a quilt and bind it with red or black binding. I LOVE the black dots on this quilt - it just pops!
