Making Icecream

How are you going this week? As far as quilting goes for me, I'm a bit uninspired. Perhaps it's because the boys are home on school holidays and I haven't had much quilting time. Perhaps it's because during these school holidays, I have been at work a lot. Perhaps it's because I'm just a bit tired at the moment. Perhaps it's because my tiny little sewing room is a HUGE HUGE MESS!! I walk into my room, look around, walk out again and shut the door! Perhaps a little spring cleaning is in order to help bring my quilting spark back?

My Denyse Schmidt fabric is still on the brew, so not much to show there yet. I have however made a small start on the gorgeous IceCream quilt from Kaffe's latest book.

Kaffe's IceCream Quilt
from his Quilt Romance book

I thought I could find enough white/pastel fabrics in my cupboard....and I was right.

These will fit the bill very nicely thank you very much. Although in my unispired state it took me a long time to choose these 14 fabrics, and I may yet change some of them!!

I cut and sewed up a few rows over the weekend, but that's as far as I got. Perhaps next week I will be able to do some more. Even though I am generally a perfectionist, I am just going with the flow of this one and not being too concerned about it being exactly straight. If it works it works, if not, it will have character!!! I will be handquilting it just like Kaffe did, I love that large-quilting-stitch-homestyle look. Yummy! (Just like icecream!).

PS: Macadamia nut icecream is my favourite...what's yours? xo

I'll take any icecream with a bit of crunch: choc chip, rocky road, cookies and cream, you get the idea.
Don't mind the look of your icecream quit either!!!

Cathy...for someone who is "uninspired" you sure do inspire me...lol...love the look of the ice cream quilt and I'm not usually a pastel person.
I hope that you get your mojo back very soon. Sometimes cleaning things up helps to get that light to go back on.

I like Rocky Road icecream....yummy!

Oh how beautiful! Your start is inspiration enough. I know what you mean about boys being home. We have two teenaged ones and a 10 year old to boot! They take up a lot of time and energy...but we love them, don't we? May I ask what the bird fabric with the robin's egg blue background (first picture) is? I love birds and that color speaks to me! Thank you.

My favorite ice cream would be anything chocolate! With nuts, cherries, sprinkles, whipped cream...the works! Sending fairy inspiration dust your way!

OH NO, Cathy! I've been able to look away from my Ice Cream fabric pile this week. I needed to get the Full Bloom quilt together before I allow myself Ice Cream. But I do have the pile gathered (for a brief moment, I even forgot what that particular pile was for...). I love your pile and your start. It's going to be delicious! Hmm. Favorite ice cream flavor? Well, I start with a good vanilla and then I mix things in. My absolute favorite is called Turtle Something and it is only available on Tuesdays at my favorite packed custard place. Unless they happen to have some in the freezer which isn't often. I need to get there on a Tuesday before they close for the winter! Ack!

Oh Cathy, the icecream quilt looks so delish! I don't eat much icecream, but I do enjoy a good quality vanilla bean by haagen das or I think it is a fig & burnt caramel by Maggie Beer. DH ate most of the last container but can't remember it...what is it that they say about not feeding truffles to pigs? LOL!

Hi Dee, your comment came with no email reply, so I will reply here...send me your email and i can answer further if you wish! Anyway, that fabric is a Jennifer Paganelli fabric from the Sis Boom Girlfriends range and is called Nuala. It came out a few years ago now, but you may possibly find some on ebay or etsy if you are lucky. it's one of my all time favourite fabrics! xo

Simply gorgeous start on your ice cream quilt. Hope your quilting mojo returns. I find a clean sewing room always helps. Favorite ice cream, hokey pokey and passionfruit ripple, both of which I can't get in the US.

Hi, Cathy. Your ice cream quilt is going to be beautiful! Love your fabrics. My favorite flavors are Pralines and Cream and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Re. above note to Dee. I always reply to my comments, but just recently realized that some have that "no reply" type of address. I have been sending them and they don't bounce back, but I wonder how many email replies I've sent out there that haven't been received?!?!?

Looks like you are off to a beautiful start on the ice cream quilt...gorgeous fabrics! My fav ice cream? I had some to die for coconut ice cream...in Nassau, Bahamas and have never had anything quite like it since, but then, that's the wonderful thing about memories isn't it?

Really love your icecream quilt! You have such a wonderful sense of colour. I love all your quilts and this is not going to be an exception I can tell! A lot of people have reported 'losing their mojo'.... it surely is the time of year but looking at your ice cream quilt is enough to make everyone want to start one!

When I first saw your ice cream quilt, Cathy it reminded me straight away of 'bubble gum' ice cream.

That quilt is going to be so pretty. I love the fabrics you chose. In long pieces as in the ice cream quilt and your wallpaper quilt, do you use lengthwise strips with no seams or do you cut across the WOF and seam them? Do the large prints disguise the seams?

Hi Cathy,
I know you feel uninspired, but your post sure inspired me. I just love the fabrics you picked from your stash. Wow, my stash doesn't look like that. Can't wait to see your finished quilt. About my favorite ice cream...rum raisin and anything with almonds in it!
Take care,
Karen
