Single Girl Going Dotty

While working on my ufo I have also been playing around with my single girl quilt. My first block is done...
The dots don't line up perfectly, and I was initially worried about that, but after lots of encouragement from the Single Girl Support Group on flickr, I decided to leave it alone and go with the imperfect look!

I WAS planning to use a Kona Taupe for the background...
...but as my Single Girl arcs sat waiting for my attention on the back of my lounge, they kept whispering to me that they wanted to go with the red polka dot! Of course, I had to give into them and I think they do look rather pretty with all those dots.
Poor Mr Taupe will have to go back into the cupboard and wait for an outing in the future. The polka dot is a 'Thats It' dot by Michael Miller in cherry. Such a bright, happy fabric don't you think.
Thanks to Katy, Nova and Megan who are putting in the hard work to keep this fabulous quiltalong going. xo

Wow, those fabrics look gorgeous with the red dots. I hadn't even noticed the dots didn't line up until you pointed it out! You don't notice it because of all the other gorgeous fabrics in the block!
It looks great!
I am sure you will find a good use for that taupe fabric.

I think that looking close up to the block I would have also been annoyed by the non matching dots but once you get the whole quilt going it will really look fantastic and the dots will just make the thing come alive. A good choice.

OHMYGOSH! I really love the dots! What utter FUN! I toyed with a print or striped background but couldn't fixate on one that I wanted to see miles of. You found a winner for that! Oh, it's going to look splendid when it's quilted too. I'd best get a move-on with mine. Resting on my laurels with one block done and wondering if I bought enough background. :-)

I agree with your arcs' whisperings...the dots will make a glorious background! I had not visited in a few days and you've been busy! Good on you for finishing a UFO!!! I love those projects with such a delightful mix of techniques. And with all the clam shell popularity, how cool to see a new way to do them!

In stitches,
Teresa :o)

Love the red dots and I didn't notice the dots not matching up either. I've had the Single Girl pattern for several years....hmmm may need to get it out and give it a go.

I'm sure single girl would have looked lovely on the taupe but I'm so very happy the dots called out to her. LOVE it!!!

It would have been just as fabulous with the taupe but I adore the spots and when it's quilted, I don't think the lining up will be anything distracting and I like a bit quirky to add the interest.
