This back...
For this quilt...
And this back...
For this quilt...
I did manage to make my first ever sponge cake this week.
It's a Donna Hay recipe and was very easy and straight forward and yummy! I had to give half of it away to make sure we didn't eat it all!
And that's about the sum of it! I hope you are having a great weekend, and for those living in Australia (who get the holiday), have a great Queens Birthday holiday tomorrow. xo

Nice backs Cathy, I really like scrappy pieced backs. So much more character than a plain one..
Honestly, I've stopped answering all my comments, I just can't seem to get round to it for ages, then it's not relevant anymore. I think that most people (me included) don't really expect a comment back for a comment do they? Anyway, don't feel you have to answer this :o)

Sometimes it's good to step back and take a little break. I am sure everyone will forgive you. Like the two backs and that cake looks divine and here's me looking at trying a diet. What are you like, putting temptation in my way!!!
Nice to get on with some finishing off. Good work. Congrats on the sponge, looks very tasty! I have forwarded the recipe to my eldest who does most of our baking.
you have been busy..........love the quilts........
The backs of your quilts look almost as good a the fronts, which is nice as that way they are reversible. And your cake looks so delicious. I can't believe that it was your very first sponge cake.
I love pieced backings and that sponge cake yummy...
You don't have to answer this one - but I couldn't resist commenting on the sponge cake!! Yum, and love the passionfruit topping. Enjoy the rest of the long weekend (except for this weather :(
I am making more and more pieced backs as well.
these are just so fun!
thanks for sharing
Kathie
I love pieced backs, but never do them because of the extra seams for hand quilting. Your backs suit the pretty fronts wonderfully :0)
Crispy
I love fun backs. Yours are as pretty as the fronts. Love both quilts. You always use fantastic color palettes.
You know I don't do enough patchy backs. I am really boring and just use the same fabric for the whole thing. I need to make more interesting backs.
As for the sponge...mmmm.
Save me a piece, I will be right over....
Love your quilts....
Doesn't it feel great to have the backs complete? You know what that means, now the fronts will be complete!! Yay!! The sponge cake looks yummy!
I love your quilts, and the pieced backs are really fun. I don't think I've ever tried a pieced back, but I'm going to soon!
Fun back and delicious-looking cake!!
I remember being at a talk by Freddie Moran and she said that she loves intersting backs. I like your idea...use of some of the stash and then be able to buy more!
I love pieced backs on quilts - yours are beautiful! Today is a baking day here...hummingbird cake and chocolate chip cookies!
I love that your backs are wonderful enough to be fronts! I still can't get over how much I love, love, love that Heather Ross-laden quilt! Please don't show it again. :D lol (Ah, yes...early-morning humor. Got to love it.)
Your cake looks so yummy! (now I'm hungry for cake) I'm the same as you...have to remove the cake or it'll be eaten! So I bought little 5" cake pans. Now I'm only making half a cake! ;)
I was so surprised and delighted the first time I commented on a blog and got a personal response! I certainly wasn't expecting it, though. I don't know how you could keep up with all of it, but your responses do make us loyal fans!
Lovely- such a fan of funky pieced backs with personality.
Love the pieced backs...they look perfect! That sponge does look delish...I started walking again this morning...cold & drizzly but I am glad I did it!
Your backs are as delicious as your quilt tops - and as for the cake ... scrumptious! I hope you are having a lovely long weekend.
Cheers,
Karen
I love how you make your back coordinate with the tops! You are always inspiring to me. (No need to write back. Enjoy your holiday!)
Lovely backs and lovely sponge! What a perfect winter weekend it was too!
Thank you for sharing these pretty pieced backs, Cathy! I have been trying to piece some backs, myself, lately. The only problem is to use yardage of a very favorite fabric, my instinct is to save those for later ; ) and so the stash just keeps growing...
The cake looks very tempting, and impressively tall!
Oh, you must have caught my disease, Cathy - goodness me - where do our days go, lol? Love your quilt backs!
Hugs - Lurline♥
Congratulations on your first sponge. That passionfruit icing is perfect!!! I love tha feature block on the back of the first quilt.
I SOOOO love the detail you put into the backings for your quilts..LOVE them...
Those are 'sew' fun! I love the sponge cake pic too, LOL!
