...was the theme I had in mind when I designed the wallhanging quilt to send overseas to my SSCS partner.
I was thinking of the bright colours we see at Christmas time here in Australia, the clear blue skies, green sparkling waters of the ocean, orange and pinks of the sunsets, yellows of the sandy beaches.
For the design I kept it simple, circles to represent the decorations on the Christmas tree...
The circle around that to represent the lovely Christmas wreaths often seen hanging in doorways to welcome friends and family.
The border fabric is from Amy Butlers Love range called Bliss Bouquet. The colours in this fabric are amazing and go very well with the white background with red writing (from Annie's Farm Stand Seed Catalog range, almost impossible to find now).
I kept the colours going on the back, I love this paint splodge fabric!
You can easily see the raw edge, freemotion quilting on the back too.
Brandon Mably's tents fabric makes wonderful binding.
This little quilt now lives in the Netherlands.

Oh, that's nice!!!
gorgeous Cathy!!!! I've just quilted a quilt in free motion spirals also.
I love the colour combination, the pattern and the ability you display. I truly love the aussie quilts. It seems to me they show a certain fresh look, in common with our Brazilian concept of colour and design.
Beautiful quilt and wonderful colours! I wish we could see these colours over here at this time of year! Karen UK
What a happy quilt; it really captures the essence of Christmas in Australia! I'm sure the recipient was very happy to get such a wonderful gift!
Oooh just gorgeous!!!
Another winner, Cathy! What a beautiful way to start posting in 2012.....you always inspire!! I especially love your idea of the red/white text fabric as the background. Thanks for your explanation as well.
There must be one veeery happy girl in the Netherlands - fabulous Cathy.
Hugs - Lurline♥
Lovely quilt! That backing is striking. Wondering where it came from???
What a terrific quilt and so clever in it's representation. Someone must be over the moon to get such a fabulous gift. Love that background, I'm hoarding some of it and the quilting looks spot on.
beautiful!
That is one beautiful quilt. I really like the binding. How wide do you make your bindings? It looks wider than the standard 2.25 or 2.5 inch binding, which really shows off the print.
Fantastic, great use of colour as usual from you. I am sure the recipient is thrilled.
Oh, it's just gorgeous! Great fabric choices. I especially love the red print background fabric and the Amy Butler border fabric. I used it to back a pillow once and liked it better than the front :D
Beautiful! As is all of your work. You really are good at quilting circles. I've never tried, but they look difficult.
It's beautiful. Love the circles, the border the quilting and the binding. A wonderful quilt to celebrate an Aussie Christmas.
I love all of this quilt... circles,background,quilting...all!

I just love the design and the colors! If I designed one that represented our Christmases here, it would be full of a lot of gray, whites, and browns. Not as happy as yours. Love it!
That is such a fun quilt! I love the bright wreaths - that was what jumped into my head when I saw it :)
Beautiful Cathy! I love all the Christmas references. Very clever! The border fabric is gorgeous and I love the backing fabric too.

Lovely quilt!!! I especially love your choices of the red words fabric for your background, and the straight echo quilting along the border. So bright and happy!

Just read MO's blog and now yours--I'm hooked on your Aussie quilts and colors, esp. now, when we're in the post-Christmas blahs (yes, even in Southern California) where we are all recoveing from the holiday excesses. This quilt is a tonic for what ails us.
Thank you!

Oh Cathy, I symply adore your "Aussie Christmas Quilt"!!! I can tell you love circles just as much as I do! Thank you for the inspiration! x
I LOVE that quilt, especially the combination of the border print and the seed catalogue background. I knew I had both those prints as soon as I saw your quilt so I pulled them out. Unfortunately I only have a half yard of the background and all attempts to locate more have failed. I never would have thought to use the two together if I hadnt seen your quilt.
I just love your interpretation of Aussie Christmas - the quilt is perfect! That background fabric comes up so well.
Kathy, I love it! It is amazing. Great job. Steph
