Of course, I had about an hour in which to take some photo's and it was raining and windy, so the pics aren't great, but you get the general idea!
Because I was in a hurry to get the quilt done, I quilted it using straight, organic lines using free motion quilting (with a darning foot). Because the quilt is essentially a grid, no marking lines were needed, making it even quicker just to stitch down the quilt, then backwards up the quilt, then down again and so on.
You can see the effect of the quilting even better on the back.
Initially I didn't have enough of that gorgeous label fabric to cover the the back of the quilt. I had some triangles leftover from the making of the wonky stars on the front, so I turned them into large pinwheel blocks and separated them using the gorgeous Summersville cross hatch. Now I had just enough fabric for my backing.
The binding was a black and white dot, but I think I should have just used a plain black. Once I get the quilt back one day I may unpick it and put on the plain black. Or I might just get a permanent marker pen and colour in the white dots, heehee!!

Very nice! I like to piece the back, too. I can't imagine taking off a binding but I like the polka dots :)
An amazing quilt!
They are both spectacular!!! you are such an inspiration! Thank you!
Those are two beauties Cathy!
Oh, next time I'm down visiting my sister, I must drop in and see them! They are great! How long will they be on display?
It looks brilliant, especially love the backing - it's funny how fabric limitations can force us to come up with the best ideas.
The gray really helps the brights pop! Very nice design.
Oh, lucky people who get to visit your library!
I'm betting the polka dot binding will grow on you, it's such a fun quilt. And the snowball quilt is fabulous. I love the way you did the 'background'!
Keep the dotty binding!! It looks great Cathy!
Your star quilt is so pretty. I think the quilting is perfect for it, and your backing is fantastic. Congratulations on having your quilts displayed!
Hi Cathy! Both quilts are so beautiful! Thank you for inspiration - I made wonky stars for my latest baby quilt! And the other design with 'snow balls' is now in my list!
Beautiful backings, too! x Teje
They are both beautiful Cathy. How exciting to have them in the library!!
Fabulous quilts. I have to admit I like the polka dot binding, I think it draws your eye in to the white flowers on the quilt but I know what it's like to dislike something like a block placement in your own quilt - it is all you can see. I am hoping like a previous commentator that it will grow on you! :)

Beautiful quilts.
I do love this quilt so much. I think its the print grey background then the addition of the bright stars. The back is as gorgeous as the front so now you have a reversible quilt!
I love that star quilt the back ground fabric choice is inspired! Brilliant!
gorgeous quilts Cathy - the library is going to look spectacular!
Beautiful! I really like that you used grey too! It makes it look very contemporary.
Don't take off the polka dot binding - it's perfect! Wonderful quilt.
The first thing to catch my eye was the binding and I love it.. then the way you pieced the back made me sit up and notice. Then I actually looked at the whole quilt. Love it all.
Your Wonky Stars quilt is wonderful!!The pops of black make those stars sparkle!
All that quilting must have taken ages!! I really love the back!! A perfect solution to not enough of one fabric!
I love the backing on this quilt. Such a nice surprise and I think the polka dot binding is perfect!
Or option three...you decide you like the polka dot too. (I'm in a dot phase so I love it!) Great quilt...both of them!
I love this quilt, especially the binding! It really "completes" it. And I must try "organic lines quilting". Sounds like a fun and fast way to quilt a quilt and it looks great too. Can't wait to see what you are working on at the moment.
That library is going to see an increase in traffic... Both quilts are beautiful!!!
Oh, Cathy, your wonky stars quilt is SOOOOOO fun! And I love the quilting and the binding is really fun too! I think I like it better than a plain black.
Your snowball quilt is fabulous too! I love those accent blocks! The designs are adorable. I must go back and check out your post on that one!
Your "Wonky Stars" is simply wonderful!! I love the way the stars twinkle and fade within the background. Your color and fabric choices are always brilliant. I love the polka dot binding too. It helps to highlight the polka dot blocks inside the quilt and keeps the eye moving around and around. Love it!!!!!
Both of the quilts are stunning! And the back of the star quilt looks prettier than the fronts of some of mine.
I'm loving seeing an encore of those two wonderful quilts. I love the straight line quilting and the back looks terrific too. Congratulations on the magazine projects, something to look forward to when you give us a peek.
It will be lovely to see your quilts in the library again Cathy. These both look fabulous. Lovely to see the Anna Maria Horner quilt out again, it's beautiful.
BTW, I've had a go at resurrecting the blog I once started but didn't stick with!
Great quilt Cathy - the back is fabulous!! Congrats on the showing at the library. Looking forward to peeks of the magazine quilts - congrats on them too! Well done you!
I was just thinking how much I liked the spotty binding! My vote is to keep it! xx
I adore your wonky stars! Such a happy quilt! And that snowball has a special place in my heart -- perfect! Congrats and good luck on your deadlines!!
Ooooh I LOVE the back!! And not just because it has that awesome textish label print…well ok, partly because of that…it's perfect for your gorgeous quilt! Look forward to seeing it in person and telling the old ducks around me that "my friend made that, isn't she clever?" x
Very nice! I like to piece the back. Congratulations.
A rug.
