Hand Quilting Progress

If you saw this post back in June, you will know I am steadily (and slowly) working away on my hand quilting project, worked in lots of straight lines using Perle 8 threads.

Well I guess I should be happy that it has only taken me about 10 weeks to stitch up two of the five long panels of the quilt now.

I do not even want to work out how long it is going to take me all up, including the border!!!

In any case, I am thoroughly enjoying having a hand stitching project to pick up at the end of the day (not every day, but most), as well as having something warm to snuggle under in this windy, gloomy cold snap that has hit Melbourne (for what has seemed like months now, but I'm sure it's not?!!).

The lines are being stitched 1/4 inch apart and the texture from all these stitches is wonderful. I love to sit patting it! I feel it is giving the quilt an antique look to it. Even the back of the quilt looks 'aged' and bubbly.

So I will keep on working with it, until everyone around me is sooo bored from seeing me lug this thing to each stitch group, and one day, I will get the third panel done! (Haha, you thought I was going to say finish it didn't you? Mmmm I think that day is a long way away for now).

This quilt began it's life way back here in this post, almost 2 years ago. I WILL get there in the end.

Cathy, this is one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen - have adored it from the first block! Do you mind telling us what batting you are using? I always use Thermore, but I would love to know if you have a recommendation.

If you are enjoying it then I guess it doesn't matter that it is taking a long time. I'm confident that you will stick with it and finish it too.

It looks absolutely amazing. I love the handquilting on it but I think you are MAD. I would love to think I could do this as the effect is so stunning but I cannot ever see myself handquilting let alone doing it 1/4" apart. Far Out.....

This is turning out lovely Cathy. What batting did you use?
I'm loving the idea, it goes so well with your interpretation of fabrics etc.

Aren't we all glad there are projects that can span two years of our lives? I know this will be a very special quilt. It's beautiful.

Nothing wrong with that old adage... good things take time. And this sure is good! Quick question - do you use a frame/hoop for quilting? I am hoping/planning to do some long straight quilting on a modern quilt, maybe using tape as a guide - and was wondering whether you can do it successfully without a frame?
